Stillness Served Hot: Tea Meditation at Keith House

The world is in a hurry. Rush here, scroll there, double-book the calendar and call it balance. So at Keith House, we thought: what if we didn’t? What if we were to slow down instead? Beginning September 22, the autumnal equinox, we’re hosting Tea Meditation with “CHOKE,” founder of Arte Tea Co., an artist for whom stillness is both craft and calling.

What Is Tea Meditation, Really?

Tea meditation is a ritual where the cup in your hand becomes a mirror for your own presence. “CHOKE” guides each gathering with rare, specially-sourced teas and otherworldly soundscapes. Silence isn’t awkward here–it’s the point. Every sip is an invitation to settle in and listen.

Think of it as a sanctuary disguised as a tea ceremony, where mindfulness and beauty share the same seat.

Every tea meditation at Keith House takes place in the calming silence of the Skyspace, under the magnificent dome of James Turrell’s Come to Good, 2024. Select sessions will be accompanied by the full sunset Come to Good presentation.

It may be the pause button you didn’t know you needed. Reserve your spot, take a seat, and remember what it feels like to breathe.

Meet Choke

“CHOKE,” short for Creating Her Own Kinetic Energy, has studied with tea masters across Asia for fifteen years, walking tea groves, and folding Vipassana and Zen meditation practices into her daily rhythm. She is Taíno and Mayan by heritage, self-taught in art and tea, and endlessly curious about how ritual can hold us steady in a restless world.

Her vision is disarmingly simple: use still, reflective rituals to spark self-awareness and connection. (Which, if you think about it, is more radical than it sounds.)

Arte Tea Co.

Arte Tea Co. is an experiment in beauty. Teas are sourced from old forests, wild harvests, and biodiverse groves, then paired with artistry that reframes drinking tea as a cultural ritual. Each offering is designed to feel like a conversation between nature, art, and you.

Why Here. Why Now.

Because it seems like stillness has become an endangered species.

Because you probably need it more than you want to admit.

Because the autumnal equinox, which occurs this year on September 22, is a hinge in the year when day and night meet as equals. That balance lasts only a moment before the northern hemisphere slides into the long evenings of winter. What better day to begin a ritual of pausing, of noticing, of tasting presence one sip at a time?

Tea Meditation take place every Monday, September 22 through october 13, Times Vary

Visit https://www.tickettailor.com/events/keithhouse to book.

Here’s what you can expect:

• Bring a pillow or a blanket.

• Wear loose, comfortable clothing as we will be seated on the floor together.

• Skip perfume, makeup and anything that has a strong smell as it will interfere with your ability to smell and taste the tea.

• Please arrive with intentions of being fully present, and allow yourself to release the daily stresses of life.

• Arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time. This will give you a few minutes to settle in, and no one will be allowed in after doors close.

For Those Who Wish to commit: special pricing for all four weeks

Each Tea Meditation session is priced individually (check the booking page for rates); but imagine how incredible it would be to attend all four Mondays with a Series Pass. Select your time of day–Afternoon, Early Evening, or Sunset—and get 15 % off. Instead of paying per visit, you’re investing in a month of serenity with a discount for commitment.

Finally, a ritual that doesn’t involve your phone.

Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves–slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life.
