An indescribable art experience

Keith House is home to James Turrell’s 99th Skyspace installation, Come to Good, designed to be experienced at sunrise and sunset. Inspired by the artist’s favorite Quaker meeting house in Cornwall, England, the space invites quiet contemplation as light transforms our perception of the sky through a retractable opening in the ceiling.

Turrell recalls, “I was maybe 5 or 6, and my grandmother would begin sitting me in the Quaker meeting house. I asked my grandmother, ‘What am I supposed to do?’ and she said, ‘Just wait—we’re going inside to greet the light.’ I liked that—this idea to go inside to find that light within, literally as well as figuratively.”

On select evenings, we welcome visual artists, art historians, performers and other guests to engage with the work in ways that deepen the experience of observing time, light and perception as they slowly unfold.

James Turrell

The artist

James Turrell (born May 6, 1943) is an American artist celebrated for his pioneering work with light and space. Turrell creates immersive environments that encourage viewers to experience light as a tangible presence rather than just illumination. Much of his artistic investigation focuses on perception, inviting people to contemplate how light and color influence our sense of space and self. He studied perceptual psychology and later explored mathematics, geology and astronomy—disciplines that have informed his unique approach.

Turrell has produced dozens of Skyspace installations — architectural spaces with carefully crafted ceiling openings that frame the sky and manipulate light in meditative, transformative ways.

Fort Worth’s Come to Good Skyspace opened to the public in early 2025, commissioned by the Meta Alice Keith Bratten Foundation as a gift to the community.
